Welcome to
my new home on the web. I am proud to present to you my
herd of Alpines, Saanens and a few select Lamanchas.
We are
located just west of Smiths Falls on the historic Rideau
River. We enjoy showing our herd as well as visiting other
breeders at the shows. We try to arrange seminars, organize
pot lucks through the winter and mentor new people into the
goat world.
We expect
our does to stand up under the stress of a busy show season,
while maintaining a high level lactation. It has been my goal
to breed for the entire animal, one who can show AND put it in
the milk pail as well as live long productive lives. We have
purchased animals from some of the best herds: Qu’appelle,
Iron Rod, Ancrest and WillowBrooke. These lines have
given me a nice dairy animal with excellent conformation and
very productive mammary.
We
take great pains to insure our herd is in good physical shape
and happy. We feed our herd the highest quality
alfalfa and grass hay, along with 16% dairy ration, whole corn
and sunflower seeds daily. We also provide free access
to trace minerals, Redmond salt, baking soda, and kelp meal.
Each goat's vaccinations are kept current and they are
provided with a consistent parasite prevention program.
I believe that goats should live like goats and enjoy access
to pasture to browse and play in the sun. Nothing makes
me happier than watching them play King of the Mountain on
large wooden spools while I do dishes.
Additionally
we have one guard llama and one donkey to look after the herd.
We
use a video monitoring system to view them 24/7 during kidding
season. Our kids are pulled at birth and fed
heat-treated cow or goat colostrum, free choice pasteurized
cold goat milk or Grober Milk Replacer. They are raised
separately from the adults and are disbudded, tattooed,
vaccinated, dewormed, and put on a coccidiosis prevention
program..
We
are very selective, so buck kids offered for sale will only be
those that we ourselves would consider using. Please remember
that there are no guarantees when working with genetics.
Sometimes the genes 'click' and sometimes they don't.
That is the challenge that faces all of us as breeders.
There is no guarantee on how the udders will develop on any of
the kids that are purchased. We cannot guarantee their mature
conformation, udder attachment, show quality, milk production,
quality of their offspring, etc.
Our
guarantee:
If
any buck or doe is found to be infertile, it will be replaced
as soon as possible after the signed registration paper is
returned to me and I receive a signed veterinarian statement
that the problem is genetic. The statement must be complete,
and the animal identified. I will also need a signed statement
from the buyer that the animal has never sired any kids (if a
buck), or been pregnant (if a doe).
We
do guarantee the health of the kid when sold.
Thank you for your interest in our small but productive herd. s.
